*i had embarrassingly low scrobbles feb - may because of TAX SEASON... i don't listen to my own music at work, and this month and june i was listening to spotify more because i was studying for REG instead of just watching random youtube videos. i hope this explains my really awful music listening decisions that we will be getting into. staring at taxes all day really makes you crasy like that!!
top 10 songs scrobbled
1. FEVER - ENHYPEN [165]
2. December 31 - J.UNA [132] *i think at some point in the month, they changed the artist name on spotify from J.UNA 제이유나 -> just J.UNA so it registered as 2 different songs. did i still listen to this way too much? yes
3. Given-Taken - ENHYPEN [81]
4. Drunk-Dazed - ENHYPEN [72]
5. butterfly - J.UNA [61]
6. Not For Sale - ENHYPEN [58]
7. Let Me In (20 CUBE) - ENHYPEN [55]
8. Tear Drop - SF9 [51]
9. Darjeeling - Barrie [43]
10. Next Level - aespa [33]
ok i can explain!! just kidding, i really can't!! like why is Let Me In (20 CUBE) so high up there when the hook is literally "I'LL BE YOUR BOYFRIEND" / "i'll give you my lo-lo-lo-love" / "i'll give you my blo-blo-blo-blood" ?? funny [mortifying] story time but i was raised in a no-AC household so i tend to drive with the windows down instead of turning on the AC in the car since i'm close to work now anyway... BUT I ALWAYS ROLL UP THE WINDOWS WHEN LET ME IN (20 CUBE) COMES ON SHUFFLE AND JUST SUFFER THROUGH THE HEATSTROKE. one time i was actually at a stoplight with the windows still open when apropos of nothing "I'LL BE YOUR BOYFRIEND" came on and i wanted to d*e. everyone around me had their windows closed though but someone was crossing the street. i think i went from "what is this song" >> ironically enjoying the song >> UMMM YEAH RADIRARA UMMM YEAH BRING IT BACK! yes i acknowledge that i do have broken ears.
FEVER: i listened to this song for the first time in my life on june 27th, thought the mv special effects were cringey, but then the song was stuck in my head. and now here we are, 173 scrobbles later... anyway why am i so obsessed with this song!!
December 31: after hearing "butterfly" in ep 1 of Nevertheless and having to wait 3-4 weeks for the actual song to be released, i decided to just go through J.UNA's discography. i really like his music!! i think Discovery is the stronger EP for me, but it's also because i'm obsessed with this song... it's just really a perfect "watching the world pass me by because i've never been strong and brave enough to stop it / stop people from leaving" kind of song!! maybe that was too oddly specific a vibe due to projection lol. also the reason why the scrobbles for this song are so high are because i was just looping this while writing velocity.
Given-Taken: sometimes a "pls take me seriously i'm a BOY GROUP" harp moment can be so good?? also the way we make fun of aespa for rapping about their naevis and KOSMO when enha is literally here singing about red eyes and white fangs and THAT BLOOD. kpop doesn't always have to be deep!!
Drunk-Dazed: i listened to this when it first got released but wrote it off as too same-y / flat. sorry @ past self i've failed you... BUT IT'S ACTUALLY GOOD... idk i like how it feels like a "the stakes keep rising" but in a kpop song where they're singing about being vampires or something!! my only complaint about it (and enha's discography in general) is that THEY SING SO HIGH... can we get just some vocal fry at least to balance it out
butterfly: it's just so good [she says for the nth time]. really love the sparseness of the guitar in the verses and then the build to the chorus! i also really like this: I wanna hate you with all my heart / even if I've been thinking about it for a while / with all your might and dozens of promises you'll end up flying away why does Nevertheless have such good osts [she's just talking about this and sam kim's song]!!
Not For Sale: not much to say, sometimes you're a 20-something who just needs to hear a cheesy pop song about ~authentic love~ OH. i also enjoy the booming bass in an otherwise very light and airy song!! very nice to hear on car speakers
Tear Drop: Believer is the best song on the album but i'm not opposed to this Jilleosseo 2.0!! yeah i'm saphantasy... except i'm a fake because i only watched one music show stage [it was on MuCore so i knew chani would be an ending fairy] but that was enough to make me Not want to watch more [spoiler alert: after suffering through kingdom performance clips i really do not need to see anymore abs or boy group skin i can't wait until winter when everyone wears long coats and padding]
Darjeeling: another show where the soundtrack is just so good?? whoever picks the music for NHIE needs a raise!! i think this was on the ep 2 or ep 3 title card and the first 5 episodes were truly insufferable so i took a break and looped this. speaking of NHIE songs, i have also been listening to Love Goes by Sam Smith and Labrinth the whole weekend... sometimes you just wanna feel Emoshunal
Next Level: me in may: this is an awful song / me in june: ok it's fun... but you will never catch me singing along to this!! / me in july: THAT'S MY NAEVIS IT'S MY NAEVIS, YOU LEAD WE FOLLOW / WE AGAINST THE VILLAIN WHAT'S THE NAME? (BLACK MAMBA) / I'M NOT THE SAME PERSON I WAS IN KWANGYA... sometimes you have to admit your truths [that you have awful taste]
other honorable mentions (basically songs 11-15)
Believer - SF9: again, best song on Tear Drop even if it's from kingdom... i think i listened to this more in may/june when it was first released, i really like how big (?) and wide the instrumental sounds. also the chorus is v catchy and inseong's horny vocal moment is so good, as per usual!!
Love Goes - Sam Smith ft. Labrinth: LISTEN... i don't think i've ever felt this way about a sam smith song before. it's really over the top [i.e. the classical-feel piano intro, the "that's how love goes" chorus, THE TRUMPETS??] but in the best possible way?? i really love the bridge too [say one day i'll be back / don't hold your breath / just know i hold a place / for you always] and the vocals are so emotional. or maybe i'm just feeling this way because i'm on my period. THAT'S JUST HOW LOVE GOES SOMETIMES...
Nakka - Akmu ft. IU: love the siren-y synth in the background that just makes you feel like you're falling!! i also think suhyun and iu's light and airy voices pair so well against a more heavy and synth-y instrumental. also really enjoyed Hey kid, close your eyes and Everest on their latest EP!
Dionne - The Japanese House ft. Justin Vernon: still as obsessed with this song as i was in january... like "wishing that someone would film the way i'm looking at you right now / i wanna watch it back / and then kill myself" / "i've been thinking about my storyline / and how your past becomes your present when it's always on your mind"?? THE THEME SONG OF YOUR OWN EMOTIONAL REPRESSION?? also when it goes crazy with the bon iver synthesizer and the lyrics that make no sense to you but the FEELINGS... don't think i'll ever get over this!!
Lipstick on the Glass - Wolf Alice: listened to the Blue Weekend album after seeing it on kaia's wrap-up last month! i didn't scrobble this track that much but i think this is one of my favorite songs of the year? really like the dream-y processing on the vocals coupled with the rock sounds of the instrumental! i also think i should stop talking about music like i know anything because i obviously don't know anything lskadgjkdf
wrap-up
pleasantly unsurprised about how what i remember listening to in july = is actually what my stats are showing i listened to in july. i make no sense. sometimes i look at my last.fm scrobbles and think it's embarrassing how much i listen to kpop [literally 95% of what i listen to regularly >___<] in the year 2021, but then i think "what else am i going to listen to? blackbear?" [not derogatory slkgajsdf, he has some good songs. she has listened to 3 blackbear songs in her life]. but i also think "when am i going to listen to REAL music?" or "when am i going to stop listening to FEVER - ENHYPEN?" i just have broken ears and i have to accept that!! anyway, i'll probably have similar scrobble numbers if not more for august because i have to study for BEC (TT___TT) so we'll see how this month goes!!

Date: 2021-08-01 09:06 pm (UTC)also believer is seriously so good!!! tear drop is my 2nd fav on the ep and i think i would have appreciated it more if it didn’t sound weirdly derivative / sparse at times.. i know that’s the intended effect but i just think it could have been elevated a little bit further??? and we have the exact same favs on NEXT EPISODE so ofc i think ur taste is perfect :D
anyway this was rly fun 2 read so thanks for sharing! i love reading people's music stats so i'd love to see this again in august and i hope you keep enjoying enhypen without any shame 🥰 ALSO ++ i'm glad u liked the wolf alice track <3 aren't the dreamy vocals sooo good!!

Date: 2021-08-03 03:04 am (UTC)ia with tear drop being sparse!! i wanted to like it more but it's really obvious they were trying to imitate now or never-sus, but it's missing the explosiveness now or never has?? i think it's the lack of melody / singing parts in the chorus that make it especially "this is it?"-ish. also the post-chorus after the initial drop feels unnecessary though i unintentionally became a duk-duk-duk-er...
thank you for enjoying me exposing my awful music taste TT__TT and extra thank you for introducing lipstick on the glass into my life kaia!! <3__<3
